With Valentines day upon us people from all over Western Washington will be flocking to restaurants, household kitchens, and hotels to treat their significant other to a memorable evening. Whether you plan on doing some home cooking, or your are business providing a service for the general public, here are a few tips to keep your Valentines free from plumbing and drain issue.
Keep your drains clear
Often times people think that you can put anything you want down the drain. Unfortunately, things like bacon grease, coffee grounds, and eggshells can wreak havoc on, not only your drains, but your entire plumbing system, and even the environment. Here are a few things that should never go down the drain (or the toilet for that matter):
- Kitty Litter.
- Coffee Grounds.
- Eggshells.
- Grease, Fat and Oils.
- Produce Stickers.
- Cotton Balls and Paper Towels.
- Medication.
- Feminine Hygiene Products.
- Baby Wipes
- Chemicals
Should you inadvertently get some of these items into your drain system, don’t panic. A very small amount will not cause severe damage to your home or drain system. Larger deposits may warrant some sort of maintenance, including a visit from a plumber. However, DO NOT reach for things like Liquid Plumber or Draino. These products can lead to the erosion of your pipes and can be toxic to the environment, pets, and children. Instead, look for a plumbing enzyme to breakdown oils and grease. Plumbing enzymes will not burn you, will not harm your pipes, and are relatively safe. AllDegrees Plumbing offers these types of products, just give us a call; or, ask your service technician for more information.
Water Heater Maintenance
Hot water is an essential part of everyday life, and even more so no Valentines day; some people like to take a hot bath, others like to cook and clean. Whatever you have planned, make sure that you have all the hot water you need. To do this, make sure you flush your water heater at least once per year. If you aren’t comfortable doing this, AllDegrees Plumbing is happy to help with a special offer for the month of February by providing a water heater flush and maintenance inspection for $99.00 + tax.
